LDAP Server (OpenLDAP) in OpenSuse 10.2

You might wonder what is LDAP, well in my opinion LDAP is a program that can manage all the user in our environment. One of the example is Windows Active Directory, with this you can make centralized login for all of your user, you also can manage how to define the rules for your user (like password policy). Too bad that you have to pay a lot of money to get this software, so the alterantive is by using OpenLDAP. Both Windows AD and OpenLDAP are a good LDAP server, but to configure LDAP is quite painful, you have to do it in konsole, but in OpenSuse 10.2 you can configure it with yast. Continue reading

MAC Address Authentication in 3COM layer 3 switch 4500 series 26 port

Hi long time not posting something in this blog, actually I’ve done this thing about 2 weeks ago, but I don’t have time to write (busy with other configuration that haven’t done yet till now…hicks…).

So here is the idea, my boss wants everyone in the office can only access the network if their machine have been authorized. S he asked how to do it, so I said by make some checking in the MAC address. But the problem is I don’t know how :p. Then I did endless search in Google and found nothing!!!

Then what comes up in my mind is joining a group or forum in internet, finally I managed to find one, the name is 3COM user group, you can visit the group with my complete posting in:
